CWC Silver Lake: A Self-Study Option
One Mission, Many Paths
The CWC Silver Lake: self-study option is where exceptional education meets flexibility, community, connection, and purpose.
Citizens of the World Charter Schools Los Angeles is proud to expand its program by offering a comprehensive self-study option that brings the Citizens of the World experience to families across California. Whether you live in Los Angeles County or one of its neighboring counties, our program provides students with access to the same rigorous, relationship-centered, constructivist education that has defined our schools for years.
At CWC Silver Lake, we believe that learning is most meaningful when students are known, challenged, and connected. Our self-study option blends the flexibility of independent study with the engagement of a vibrant school community. Students participate in live instruction, collaborate with classmates, build meaningful relationships with teachers, and engage in project-based learning that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world application.
Our students don’t simply complete online assignments—they develop their identities through our signature Roots advisory program, serve their communities through meaningful service learning, and become changemakers by participating in informed action projects that empower them to make a positive impact in the world.
CWC Silver Lake’s self-study option is designed for families seeking a high-quality public school option that offers both flexibility and belonging. Whether students are competitive athletes, performing artists, or homeschoolers, students with unique scheduling needs, or simply looking for a personalized educational experience, CWC’s self-study option provides a pathway to become part of the Citizens of the World community.
Together, we are preparing students to become thoughtful scholars, compassionate leaders, and active citizens of the world—no matter where they call home.

He received his B.A. in Political Science from Columbia University in the City of New York and his M.A. in Educational Leadership from Seton Hall in New Jersey. James’s love for teaching is rooted in an aspiration to support students in discovering the value in education, helping them to uncover their purpose in life, giving students the tools and confidence to disrupt unjust systems and to advocate for themselves, their communities, and the world. He is committed to the reimagination of education as an instrument for progress.
Outside of school, you can find James hiking in the mountains of Pasadena, lying out on the sands of Manhattan Beach, tackling the stairs in Culver City, or singing his heart out at karaoke in DTLA.
