Welcome To
CWC East Valley
CWC East Valley opened its doors in 2021 to serve an intentionally diverse community of learners in the heart of the East Valley. Since then, we have continued to grow alongside our students, expanding our program one grade level at a time. Today, we serve students across multiple grade levels and are on track to offer a full TK–8 educational experience by the 2028–2029 school year.
At CWC East Valley, students experience a holistic education filled with joy, project-based learning, rigorous academics, the arts, and meaningful opportunities to explore their interests and talents. Our classrooms are designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning while ensuring every student feels known, valued, and supported.
Our program is particularly strong in developing students’ social-emotional skills across lines of difference. Through intentional community-building and collaborative learning experiences, students learn to communicate effectively, build meaningful relationships, and lead with empathy.

Gillian Smith
Read my bio
Gillian views herself as an educator, an adventurer, and a lifelong learner and these qualities have shaped her both professionally and personally. Gillian has over 20 years experience as an educator, and she is committed to seeking out positions that match her values, passions, and expertise and this approach has taken her on a journey around the world!
Gillian grew up in Sheffield, England, and gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from The University of Sheffield. She also completed a P.G.C.E in Primary Education with the University of Plymouth. Gillian also holds a MSc in Educational Leadership from Leicester University and is currently on a doctoral journey with Texas Tech University with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction.
As an educator she seeks out ways to bring the core values and learning model to life in innovative and authentic ways. She is committed to developing a true learning community that has student safety and a sense of belonging at its core. She is passionate about developing rigorous and relevant learning experiences that give all students opportunities to be successful, and be risk-takers. By creating opportunities for students to grow socially and emotionally and also academically, we give them the tools to develop habits of mind that equip them to be curious about the world and develop as problem solvers and critical thinkers.
Outside of school, Gillian enjoys spending time with her husband and two Taiwanese Mountain dogs. You will find her spending her time outdoors, being creative, reading or traveling.
